Is a Distillery Coming to Park Place? – AltDaily

Nestled between O’Connor Brewing Company and Toast could soon be a rum distillery.

Dead Reckoning Distillery has signed a lease at 312 W. 24th Street. They plan to produce what they’re calling Rebel Rum, a “smooth white rum,” and Dead Reckoning Premium Craft Spiced Rum.

Behind the project is Derek Ungerecht, a US Army veteran.

“This is a great location near other businesses that are doing great things,” said Ungerecht. “The other business owners we have talked to have been extremely welcoming and helpful.”

Their vision is increasing foot traffic for the whole Park Place neighborhood. Along with the distillery will be a tasting room and store.

“We are very excited to join the maker movement in Norfolk,” said Matt Hartman, a partner with Dead Reckoning and their director of marketing. “We feel the craft rum market is under served while going through tremendous growth.”

The group is in the process of dealing with local, state, and federal licensing. They hope to have Park Place sipping their very own brand of rum by the end of 2016.
